the last time i rode was in my early- to mid- twenties when i used a bicycle to get to and from the kh for my pioneer service.

I live in the foothills of northern California, USA. Tortuous, narrow roads -- scary -- yet bicyclists are everywhere, particularly those training for major events. Sad to say, there've been fatalities. I drive to a safe place, that one mentioned earlier.

has anyone noticed that witnesses (from the top down) seem to have a quiet form of smug arrogance toward all non witnesses?.
perhaps it comes from being told how "special and unique" they are but they end up looking down on all normal members of the community because they are not witnesses.. so any form of "love" they show those in the territory is also limited as long as they accept the message...otherwise they are viewed contemptuously as "worldly" and therefore of little value...after all,they will be destroyed right?.

I believe it's because so many Scriptures were applied to us collectively and congregationally: we are theatrical spectacle to men and angels; the other sheep have a privileged relationship with the anointed remnant; the angels are given a watch over us; he who touches His people touches the eyeball of Jehovah; etc.
Because I knew so many of the anointed, whom I cherished, I felt Jehovah had a special interest in me. Was I arrogant and "better" than worldlings? No, but I honestly felt Jehovah selected me to lead out of darkness the people whose paths crossed mine. I still wonder about prayers answered regarding my ministry.
I feel quite insignificant now . . .

Your warning is well taken. I looked over my shoulder a few times when there was a possibility of overtaking traffic and got to thinking that I need a sideview mirror (so's not to fall and cut open my chin!!!).

I had to pop the bike into the bed of my pickup truck [lorry?] and drive to the level trail because, at home, it's all hilly and I just couldn't do it.

I bought a nearly new 7-speed bicycle at a yard sale for $30 last weekend and took it out this morning on our paved, local bicycle/walking trail. The last time I rode was in my early- to mid-twenties when I used a bicycle to get to and from the KH for my pioneer service. Somehow, I found today's adventure far less harrowing.
Whenever I came to a motor vehicle trafficked intersection, I dismounted (according to posted instructions), and drivers right and left slowed and permitted my cross walking. I waved and mouthed a cheerful "Thank you!" Old men are truly honored and respected . . .
It's a wonderful world!

an unwelcome dawn comes creeping upward, her tendrils straddling the dark mountain so terribly near my once sweet but now quaking refuge called home of the heart.. i peer through panes that give onto a landscape of horror that, to some, appears pristine but to me is a reminder that he has been swallowed up by a wood both black and cruel.. daring to venture forth, i hear his voice .

.. he calls out, so faintly, begging i rescue him from a jail that holds him fast against all escape; though myself a liberated man, i cannot free the one i taught the truth.
